Something Comforting is a friendly and supportive group where like-minded people can connect and inspire one another through the shared experience of reading. We explore a wide range of mostly non-fiction books (with the occasional allegorical novel) covering topics such as yoga, philosophy, spirituality, mental health & self-development, using these texts to generate meaningful conversations and explore new perspectives.
This meet is a little different!
We are gathering to watch Klara and the Sun, a new film based on a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro we read together last year. If you have not yet read Klara and The Sun, we recommend you do before this meet up.
PLEASE NOTE: The timing of this meet is to be confirmed, as it depends what time the film is showing (Penny Lane Cinema, Moonee Ponds). We will mostly likely aim for a 4pm/5pm showing.
Movie bookings* will be made as soon as the schedule is released. After the film, we will head over to At One to discuss as a group (complete with tea and snacks!)
*Movie bookings to be made separately/ individually. I will confirm times and send a prompt to book tickets closer to the date.
$14 per person. 20% off for At One Members.
Limited space. Booking is essential!
Please note: as this is one of our most popular events there is an 8 hour cancellation policy. If you can no longer attend please cancel your booking as soon as possible to avoid others missing out.
FAQs
-
You will need to bring your own copy of the book to the event. Many books can be found second hand, online, be borrowed from a library or listened to on Spotify.
-
Of course! Many of our attendees listen to the books on Spotify or Audible. If anything resonates with you whilst you’re listening we highly recommend writing it down so that you don’t forget when it comes to our meet up.
-
Not at all :) We know how busy life gets and although of course this book club encourages you to read regularly, if you don't manage to finish the book in time for the event do not stress! You will still be able to take part in the group discussions.
-
Although we encourage you to read the suggested book, if you don't manage to before the event you are still more than welcome to attend! The texts will be used to inspire general conversation and prompt group discussions, so you will definitely be able to participate in these regardless of whether you have read the book.
-
Definitely! We recommend highlighting extracts, making notes and/or journalling as you read so that you can get the most of each book and bring any insights along to share with the group.
-
Of course not. There is never any pressure to share something if you're not comfortable doing so. Each participant is responsible for creating their own boundaries as well as respecting those of others.
-
Absolutely! Suggestions always welcome.
